Changing Lanes and Turning

While you should always be alert and maintain your presence of mind while driving during your road test, it is also important that you keep calm, be relaxed, and not panic.

When asked to change lanes, keep your current speed. Don’t feel like you have to jump into the flow of cars in the lane, you should only change lanes when it is safe to do so.

Use your turn signal to let the cars at your rear that you wish to join the lane. Check your mirrors, and your blind spots before changing lanes.

When asked to take the next left on a multi lane road, you should start moving over to the left lane and enter the turning lane even without being instructed. Remember that you do not have the right of way in this situation, so carefully watch the oncoming traffic and pedestrians, and turn only if it is safe to do so.

Always hug the curb when making a right turn, and square off your turn when making a left. Stay close to the lane where you are and turn into the lane closest to you.
